While I did not think he should have quit the season early (as he did) the game did give me some more information that lessened my disquiet.  It was reported that he consulted his team prior to making the decision and only went through with it when he received their support. 

And most importantly, I learned that the game would be played on turf.  I have been a life long opponent of turf on the grounds that even the latest generation of it promotes injuries--more so for football than for other sports, as it turns out.  Frankly, I would not mind if every football player sat out every game played on turf, until they force the abandonment of this safety hazard.
