I remember when I was a kid in Wisconsin it always seemed that the Big 10 would always win the Rose Bowl, unless Wisconsin was playing in it. Then once I got to Stanford in 1965, the Pac 8/10 almost always won the Rose Bowl, no matter who was playing in it.

Didn't realize how true that was until I checked. In the period from 1950-1965, what is now the Pac-12 had a grand total of four victories against the Big Ten, three of which were against Wisconsin.
I grew up in Seattle,and when Washington played Wisconsin in 1960, everyone wondered if the upstart Huskies could stand up to the big, bad Badgers. Washington won 44-8, and there were suggestions after the game that Wisconsin was soft, had too much fun at Disneyland, and hadn't taken the game seriously.
