+ 10 on everyone's undergrad acceptance stories. They are a true pleasure to read.
As a graduate student applying up and down the west coast (i.e. California), from the icy midwest, I did not have a real school preference. When I got the envelope from Stanford, the letter (from my department) congratulated me and stated I would not be receiving any financial aid as I had indicated that I could pay the tuition. ??? At that point, I just figured I'd go somewhere else. Nevertheless, something possessed me to call the department the next day. I told them I was dying to come (not exactly accurate), but that I could not possibly pay tuition (quite true). They said, "OK, full tuition, then." I was totally taken aback, but I think that phone call sealed the deal. My goodness, if they wanted me that bad, I guess I had better go there. I am so glad I did for so many reasons, including ones like being here (I mean here) today.
