Interestingly, the other sub-.100 hitter for year 2017 that has seen some action in LF this year (update: Howell is now 2-20 and at .100) was described by Hanson in her initial introduction of the player as "a lefty slapper who has the potential to provide a great additional lefty-look in our lineup."
Perhaps those players who were primarily "slappers" upon their arrival at Stanford have all since been exorcised of the slap-happiness that brought them earlier success?
