The quote from the Band manager certainly sounds promising, but I'm curious as to why Russell Gavin (degrees from Auburn, ND, FSU) would have even applied for such a job.  Seems like the LSJUMB is roughly 180 degrees from the impressive breadth of his accumulated experience. 

In fact, his experience is exactly what the Band needs... field show performance (DCI experience is very valuable... if you like it LOUD), music arranger, educator (teach students rather than dictate to students), key role on a student conduct board, and an outsider who can help address the echo-chamber effects (both within LSJUMB and Stanford overall).
