There's research out there that giving your kids regular boring names will benefit them in life outcomes. The effect is small and I think the trend towards unusual names wipes out that benefit. Of course, if you're a billionaire you can name your kids anything.
If you're Asian and have a common last name, I think it's a good idea to give your kid an unusual (but not weird) name so they don't get confused with somebody with the same name. God forbid, somebody with the same name does something notorious. I've met several Peter Chungs and upon our introduction, they felt the need to say "I'm not 'Chung is King', Peter Chung"
