Whitney Burks posted 4 RBI's to continue her outstanding weekend at the plate, including a 2-run home-run to right-center field. Kiana Pancino was simply sensational in the circle, allowing only 1 hit, while forcing 11 flyouts. Cardinal pitchers have only allowed 1 run in the first two games of this series so far.
Well deserved win for the players!
Also, an exceptional performance today from Kristina Inouye who, hitting in the 2-hole, contributed four hits in as many at-bats.
Certainly didn't hurt having the player who now (including today's HR, not to mention 4 RBIs) has hit more HRs in Pac-12 play than the rest of the team combined and who also has the team's 3rd highest batting average (among the more or less "regulars," so to speak) versus 2017 Pac-12 competition taking her cuts in the "clean up" spot today, as opposed to, say, a career sub-.200 hitter mired in a 5-for-45 slump (see Reply #186 of this thread), right, Coach?
ZERO walks in 7 innings pitched by Pancino -- how utterly refreshing!
Perhaps the team picked up a recent pointer or two from the CARDboard (see below) while Hanson was looking the other way?  ;D
d4cohn (Apr. 29 post): "Our pitchers seem too overly cautious with regards to challenging hitters. As a result, we end up allowing a bunch of walks, and after we have given up a few free passes, we overcompensate and put the ball over the heart of the plate, which leads to a home-run or extra-base hit."
http://www.gostanford.com/news/2017/5/6/...ampus.aspx (May 6 game summary): "Pancino did not permit a walk and primarily let her defense work, tallying only two strikeouts. Her defense did not let her down and made every play it was tasked with."
Well done, team!
