OK barristers, aren't youth records supposed to be sealed? Is there an exception for sex offenses? And is there a time limit on registration?
Most states' sex offender laws treat juvenile sex offenders as adults in some respects, which, among other things, means their records aren't automatically sealed at 18 unless requested and granted by a judge.
TBH, I'm not sure why this is a news story, and I really don't see what the point of posting it to the CardBoard is. He did the crime, he paid the time, and hopefully he can get on with his life. I don't see the value in having this here.

Nor was there any reason for ESPN to be running this news on its bottom line ticker yesterday. I've read some horror stories about guys who weren't sexual predators but got caught for a technically illegal sexual act many young boys might also do, and then were forced to register as sex offenders. It's a life-ruining stigma in many ways. There are no legal prohibitions on the media reporting on the activities of adults, but it's quite shameful to go out of your way to embarrass someone like this to get clicks on a website. It's not like the reporting on this is somehow making the public safer, or the guy is in jeopardy of not being able to play his sport. So what purpose does publicizing this serve?
