OK barristers, aren't youth records supposed to be sealed? Is there an exception for sex offenses? And is there a time limit on registration?
Most states' sex offender laws treat juvenile sex offenders as adults in some respects, which, among other things, means their records aren't automatically sealed at 18 unless requested and granted by a judge.
TBH, I'm not sure why this is a news story, and I really don't see what the point of posting it to the CardBoard is. He did the crime, he paid the time, and hopefully he can get on with his life. I don't see the value in having this here.

1. First I think others have brought up this was a particularly serious crime that occurred repeatedly over a substantial period of time. It does not sound like an honest one time mistake type of crime.
2. I think there is a broad issue in college sports today about college athletic programs and sexual harassment or sex-related crimes (Brock Turner, Duke lacrosse, Penn State) and whether universities are doing a good enough job protecting students. And regardless of whether the student is an athlete or not, sexual assault on campuses is a major current issue. I've known people who have have made mistakes related to hot current news story or topic, and they then get much more media attention. It sucks and it seems unfair but if someone commits a crime related to a current hot topic, they're going to get more attention.
3. We generally bring up any bad news for other sports programs. Whether fake dead girlfriends, coaching drama, coaching substance abuse,... etc. Should we instead talk about all bad news for other sports programs except for sex crimes?
4. And this is a little bit of a technicality. But if he failed to register recently, that's not something in the past that he has done his time for.
