One would think reading this thread that the current Giants management were complete idiots compared with past front office teams. Well, except for those three World Series trophies ... ::)
Personally, I believe Sabean took a mortgage out on the future to make play-off pushes during Buster Posey's prime years. The bill has now come due and the farm team collateral isn't in place to spring for quick fixes.Â
The Giants still have some good pieces to build around but no margin for error. All their moves have to pay off to make another Posey era play-off push. That's a tall order but if anyone can do it then it's the guy who put the team together that won those three trophies.Â
Even if he doesn't do it this 40 year Giant fan will cut Sabean some slack. I've endured years of ineptitude and looking up at the hated Dodgers in the final NL West standings so selling the near term future in order to win multiple titles seems a worthwhile exchange.
