For mick and others who played, did you have a sense that seeing stars would be a lifelong chronic affliction at the time? I think anyone who's received a concussion feels tangible short term consequences, but my sense from recent CTE research is that you can experience chronic long term problems without serious short term ones as pre-incidents, and that even non-concussing activity may contribute to the incidence of CTE. My sense was until 5-10 years ago, a specific concussion incident wasn't expected to have lifelong consequences. Maybe I'm wrong about that?

My sense was that I wanted as few of them as possible because I thought they led to permanent brain injury.  Yes, even as a 16 year old high school jock.
