Uuuggh!!!
This thread has touched upon one of my pet peeves for Stanford football and even (to some extent) Stanford as a whole -- we suck at nicknames!
We are often trapped in the past with ancient references.
The Cardinal Sports Day is called Cardinalpalooza, presumably named after Lollapalooza, a music festival from the 90s that ended in the US a long time ago.
I cannot think of a good Stanford nickname since Touchdown Tommy Vardell. During that era, there was this really big dude who would carry the Stanford flag on a flagpole and run around the field. And his name? Flagasaurus.
Even if we hate usc, calling Reggie Bush "The President" at least was original, though also obvious.
Years ago, Oregon had a super fast RB who got the nickname, "The Black Mamba."
Nicknames do not have to be a play on their name, or based on the formation they run out of. And they should not be references to movies or songs from before they were born.
So please, no Wild Love! (Although, that is absolutely the best of the three). And please, no more calling it Cardinalpalooza -- what is a Cardinalpalooza anyway?
