That's the "successful play" metric. Per someone (Football Outsiders, maybe) a successful play on offense is one that gains 40% of the required yardage on 1st, 70% on 2nd, or 100% on 3rd/4th. On defense it's preventing those percentages. Part of USC's demolition of us is that virtually all of their plays in the first half were successful. It was alarming.
We seem to get behind the chains (have unsuccessful plays) a lot. It's a problem.
