Shaw - like all coaches - must at some point realize the playbook can't be used as a crutch for coaches to feel more comfortable and in control.Â
As someone who leads an organization, my experience is if you give talented people a narrow focus and the opportunity to take the ball and run with it, far better outcomes occur than when you give less talented people with more experience, greater responsibility to do more things.
I'd rather have a QB that can only run 3 plays, makes good, quick decisions, has poise, presence, and throws accurately, than one who knows a 1,000 page playbook, but can't do those things as well.
