I'm not opposed to this theory, in fact I think some of that thinking probably played into game preparation. However, don't you think that by the fourth quarter when it was clear that the game was in serious jeopardy Shaw would have taken off the gloves a little bit? Open up the playbook? We were very, very lucky. If OSU doesn't fumble on their next-to-last possession we are sitting here trying to explain how we lost to a team that was previously winless in conference.
If this is the thinking then it is even more puzzling to me why Shaw acted the way he did. We supposedly have one of the more complex offensive schemes in college football, but you're right: it was not on display Thursday night.
