I think Shaw has dramatically improved our recruiting because of his own personal example; an African-American alum of Stanford football who clearly values academics, discipline, and character.  Parents and students trust him to do what is right and to provide the environment of professionalism and growth and excellence that they want during their 4-5 years.  We have had other alums coach our team, we have had great football minds, we have had men of character, but never have we had one coach who brought so much from all these dimensions together.
