Frankly I think this sums it up best. I will also flip it- I think Stanford is perfect for Shaw. Its a great partnership.Â

Comparing him to other elite coaches is pointless, because none of those coaches could import their achievements from elsewhere to our school; plunk them down here and watch them fail, since they would not be right for Stanford.
Being a football coach at Stanford is so unique that there is simply no reason to believe that the qualities of being a good football coach generically would translate to being a good football coach here. To be a good football coach at a corrupt powerhouse school demands expertise in corruption. Being a good football coach at Stanford demands the ability to turn the academic reputation and demands of the school from a football liability to a recruiting advantage. Very, very few coaches have that capability.
To me, that dwarfs my complaints about Shaw's conservative approach or my disagreements with his playcalling. Those complaints are for arguing about on this message board where friends debate football abstractions. But the day Shaw leaves Stanford will be the most devastating day in the history of Stanford athletics.
