If Im Lynch I trade my No 1 for more picks. They need a lot. As for Garafalo, if he can look decent with this mess it will speak volumes.
BTW Mick, the dubious record Shanahan broke belonged to ... Bill Walsh. I dont care how brilliant of a coach you are. You need talent. They have none. And unfortunately with the salary cap its a little harder to dig out today.

So if they're so godawful, why are the 49ers sitting on all that cap space? They have $50.7 million in cap space for next year, which they could roll over. If they release all the duds whose contracts expire, they'll have $115 million to play with.Â
Why wouldn't they get some (much) better players with that cap space? Is it their long term plan to be the worst team in the NFL, going 0-32, then creating a turnaround team like Dallas did in 1988 (Landry's last year, 3-13) and 1989 (Jimmy Johnson's 1-15 year)?
