1. Maybe Leach is emboldened to downgrade Love because he expects his D will not have to play him;
2. As for the rest of it, not that controversial. Shaw is a good coach; Harbaugh did lay the foundation and put together the great early teams (I also agree that the use of "but" was a gratuitous shot at Shaw that doesn't give him credit for maintaining the program with his own recruits).
3. It is definitely true that Stanford recruits itself. I mean, get serious for a moment. If you're a good/great athlete and academically inclined, is there any other college you'd rather attend (or have your kid attend?). I've always said there are a lot of great universities out there and that kids can have the terrific experiences as student/athlete at a brobdingnagian number of colleges. But if you absolutely had your pick of the bunch: Stanford. And I think most opposing coaches realize this and that understandably chaps them a bit. So bottom line: I agree that Stanford institutionally provides a "floor" for coaches trying to recruit here, as well as a ceiling. But I think we'd all take that trade in a nanosecond - it's really a big reason why we enjoy rooting for those that don the Cardinal and White.
4. CTC's list of conference RBs is about right. Love is most explosive; the kid from Oregon may prove to be the best pro.
5. Leach's sound bites can be amusing and a refreshing change of pace from Robo-Coach-Speak, but there are few coaches I enjoy watching Stanford beat more than Leach teams. Unfortunately, it will be a tough nut to crack without a healthy Love.
