Comparing teams involves comparing personnel at key positions, as well as comparing schemes. I haven't seen Texas, so I don't know how they line up for their base offenses and defenses. However, statistically, Stanford and Texas seems to be a very poor comparison.
| Texas | Stanford |
| PASSING YARDS | |
| 193.6 | 273.0 |
| 85th Overall | 26th Overall |
| RUSHING YARDS | |
| 210.4 | 207.9 |
| 19th Overall | 22nd Overall |
| POINTS FOR | |
| 28.7 | 43.6 |
| 53rd Overall | 5th Overall |
| POINTS AGAINST | |
| 23.3 | 20.3 |
| 42nd Overall | 23rd Overall |
Of course, comparing statistics across conferences is a kind of invalid because it doesn't take into account the competition levels and the styles of play of the teams in the conference. On the surface, anyway, it seems that Texas has a much worse offense than Stanford, largely because of an ineffective passing game. We lack receivers, but have been able to get the job done through the tight ends. Texas' poor offense is really evident in that it scored only 24 points against a reportedly weak Baylor defense.
