For one thing, they seem to be willing to take what they have and make something from it, rather than just saying "Bear raid or nothing". Laird would never have seen the field under Yikes (and probably not under Wilcox if there were not so many injuries. The Bears got "lucky".). They also try to play defense, which will help them a lot :). That said, it is one year. The Cal program has shown the ability to blow up when you least expect it. It also has shown a tendency to get "stuck" at just below good. Wilcox clearly has ambitions, and I don't see him as a "Cal forever" guy. He is in a new coach in the honeymoon period where both the fans and the players don't expect much. That will be progressively less true as time goes on.
