Of course UCLA could have waited another week, but what if they then beat ןɐɔ and go to bowl? This gives them more chance to get another coach in place before commitment date. Of course they also could have waited until after commitment date and then informed new commits that the coach that recruited you wont be around. But that would be wrong......

Oh, that's been done before.  By none other than Lane Kiffin.  I remember, in 2012, keeping this running tally in my mind of all the things Kiffin did that were so rodent-like.  It included, in short chronological order:
- Refusing Norm Chow and Hawaii to do a walk through in the Coliseum because he wanted to "preserve the field".
- Banning a reporter because he reported an injury.
- Having his reserve QB change his number to the punter's during a two point conversion attempt.
- Deflating footballs against Oregon.

Kiffin saved his best for February 2013.  His running backs coach, Kennedy Polamalu, was also a great recruiter who bonded with several prospects.  Kiffin fired Polamalu right after National Signing Day.
