Great to read about such a dominant second-half performance against a solid team - Sagarin had Belmont at 38th before this game. We were 26th. By far the best team we've played apart from UConn and OSU, so the dominant performance is definitely uplifting.
Encouraged to see Marta shooting more - so far this season, she actually has a better 3-point % (.357) than overall shooting % (.267). No one is going to be wowed by her making roughly 1-in-3, but that ratio is more than solid enough that she absolutely should be keeping defenses honest with it. She's also averaging 5.5 assists per game and an assists to turnover ratio of roughly 2.2, so if she can continue to threaten around 10 points a game, I think she'll really open up the rest of our offense.
07, you're right that Carrington seems to be filling a similar spot to McPhee - streaky, can erupt out of no where and score 20-something, but can also go 1 for 9 or 3 for 12 on an off night. Both seem better at creating their own offense. I'm not exactly sure how I see them fitting together at the same time, but at least once McPhee graduates we know exactly who will step into her shoes.
And I'm glad Alanna finally got a breakout game. I think this will be a big confidence boost for her leading up to OSU. 81, you said Tara said Alanna is still working her way back into form after the summer, right? I wonder why - didn't she play international basketball with Australia most of the summer? If anything I would have thought she'd be coming back in the best shape ever, much like Bird had a breakout season her junior year after playing USA basketball.
Finally, it's nice to see Alexa continuing to develop. She's such a long guard that she can be great on defense (vs. Bri, who was smaller but really fast), and her shooting has seemed solid this season.
Fingers crossed we can at least play OSU close. A win might be a little unrealistic with McPhee out, but I'm hopeful we can improve our performance versus last game.
