So many measures, so many great ideas. Heres my take.
Somebody earlier post some ideas/definitions of successful plays. Dont remember exactly, but they were something like 4 yards on first down, 4 yards on second down, and conversions on third and (nonpunting) fourth downs. My suspicion is by that metric, we had a (much?) lower than usual share of successful plays: e.g. three and out, three and out, a first down, then Love busting out for six. How many successful plays in those series? Maybe 2, 3 of around 11. Thats what it looked like to me this season.
An ancillary problem was what I will call play mixing. In my mind, play mixing is different from play calling in that it is more nuanced, and has less to do with calling the right or wrong plays, and more to do with mixing plays much more effectively to keep the opponent off balance.
I would not necessarily argue that these are the absolute core issues, but I think its easy to see how failure here can lead to fewer points per drive or game than we think we should have.
Not sure this touches directly on fragility, as I dont have a clear picture of what a fragile offense looks like. Still, we had too few successful plays this year.
