Didn't USC get tuned 51-6 by Bama just last year?
USC can ask BYU how awesome it is to be an independent. I think the allure is even fading for the Irish, but they keep after it. Scheduling would definitely be a problem if banned from playing the California teams. But no one can ban whom you play, can they? As an independent they could annually schedule Stanford, UCLA, Cal, San Diego State and Notre Dame as rivals; grab one SEC opponent, one Big11 opponent and one BigXII opponent for recruiting exposure outside California, leaving 4 filler games. Probably workable actually. Don't see it happening though.
