Agreed that Bruce wasn't the answer. The Giants need right handed power and Bruce was a lefty who excels in tiny parks. His bat exit speed was only one m.p.h. faster than the league's average -- in fact, the exact same as Brandon Belt. Belt and Bruce are very similar in other esoteric batting aspects as well. Plus, he wanted a four year guaranteed deal taking him through age 35 (he got a three year deal). We already have one aging bust of an OF on the team in Pence, at least Span is gone.
I know the Giants want McCutchen. And he would be a good, not great get. .363 OBP last year with an .849 OPS. Was an All-Star for vie years in a row, finished top five MVP voting four years in a row through 2015. Subpar year in 2016, rebounded in 2017. Had one double in 21 trips to the plate at AT&T this year; .275 with an .818 OPS in his career at AT&T.
I think Slater could have a superb year -- and he's cheap, which the Giants dearly need. he's patient at the plate with a .339 OBP, had a .740 OPS, .282 batting average. I think he starts the year in center field. Fun fact: Slater hit .372 at home, with an .891 OPS. I'll take that, yes I will.
