Pence can't stay off the DL any more. So he only counts as half a roster spot. Anything more than 100 games from him is pure gravy.
McCutchen has had his injury problems too. His best days may be behind him. I wouldn't sign him to anything longer than 2 years -- if someone like Boras is his agent, forget it.
Agree that Slater deserves a shot. IF they sign McCutchen they can go with Slater in LF, McCutchen CF, Pence in RF. Then when Pence gets hurt in June they can try another combo, maybe suck it up and platoon Parker and Williamson again.
The Giants are always worried that their lineup is too left-handed. Haven't they figured out how tough that park is on RH batters? Posey and Pence do well because they are not dead-pull hitters. Posey goes to the right side better than just about any hitter in the league and Pence has always been an up-the-middle guy.
