Johnson was fantastic at getting McPhee open, and on a few occasions Williams dribbled into traffic and then passed out for a nifty inside outside three pointer. We really got to see the Princeton working in the second half, especially late when they went to man. Johnson really is a glue player, and because we didn't need much scoring from our bigs inside, every other aspect of her game has been top notch lately.Great point, 2006. And what two players were best at setting and then utilizing the screens? Our two seniors. Screens are very very tricky and take a lot of timing and experience to make them work properly. They are a little like timing patterns in football when the pass has to be thrown before the receiver is looking--the screener and the moving player have to be perfectly in sync. We first started using a lot of screens when Kaylee and Britt were freshmen--right after Chiney graduated and we abandoned the triangle. Kaylee got repeatedly called for moving screens. Back then it was Amber and Lili she was setting the screens for. The inability to make our screens work well really cost us those two losses to Chattanooga and Tennessee. But four years of practice together and they worked perfectly, and the screen right there at the elbow is one of the standard options in the Princeton.Â
Did we see Smith setting screens? I seem to remember one but can't be sure. Let's hope Fingall and Dodson prove equally adept as Kaylee. Methinks Williams is going to score a few hundred points off of screens during her career.
