I'm no recruitnik . . . but you don't have to be to see that this was a major failure on the part of the staff. Hopefully just a one-year blip, but aficionados on the other site are less sanguine. Very rational and fact-based posters (I'm thinking Matt Squeri, in particular) have painted a pretty grim picture of the staff's recruiting strategy and efforts of late (2018 a disaster; 2019 not much better in terms of early offers, getting on sufficient number of radars, etc.).
That is troubling. And still something I don't really "get." I've been a consistent critic of Shaw as a game caller and offensive mind; but I've always believed Shaw is an excellent rep for the university and role model for many young men. And I've found his recruiting to be at least good, on average. It's troubling that there was such a glaring ball drop here.
