This swim-off thing in a distance event seems like cruel and unusual punishment. Instead, how about letting the swimmer with the lowest time this year swim the final, and give team points for last place in the final to the other one? Or flip a coin to decide who swims and has the chance to get more than the last-place points awarded to the loser of the flip?
