LeMaster was a pretty bad shortstop, for sure. He committed a ton of errors, and he had close to the worst range of any shortstop in the NL. He was rarely in the top 10 in errors (just once, tied for 10th in the strike season of 1981) because he didn't play that many games. He had 179 errors in 992 games as a shortstop, and it was coupled with a career .222 batting average and a .277 on base percentage. Slugging average of .289, no lie. He was pretty terrible.
Herman Long committed 1096 errors (in 1,795 games at shortstop) with a .906 fielding percentage. He holds the record.
