Yes. As a (mediocre) player, that's one of the things I keep track of during a match: who is winning the long rallies. If you are winning a decent majority, that usually means you are more consistent than your opponent, so you want to get into long rallies and not take chances to end points early. That does not necessarily mean you will get to continue having long rallies, because if your opponent makes the same assessment as you, then they will start taking more initiative to end points earlier (hitting closer to the lines, coming up to the net, sprinkling in drop shots, etc.) or at least mixing up some things to disrupt your consistency.
