Um... if the plan all along on that drive was to get close enough to try a field goal from 35 yards, IMO Shaw should have found time to check in on his kicker's state of mind. There are very few college kickers for whom a 30+ yarder is a sure thing in clutch situations. If you have any questions and time left, you try to get as close as you can.
As for the wildcat... I think you need one of two things (or both) for that play to work. Either it needs develop super quickly or there needs to be some different ways in which develops. Ours is neither. The defense knows exactly what to expect the moment they see the formation and have enough time to disrupt it. Yes, I know we had some success with it early on but that was before there was enough tape on what to expect from it.
