I do not blame Williamson, who is at the start of what will probably turn out to be an illustrious career.  Every loss has a thousand authors.

Psychology is also part of the coaching profession, and I think Shaw erred in putting the whole game on the foot of a frosh rather than letting outgoing Luck win it or lose it with his arm and legs.  Shaw's playcalling got a bit too conservative toward the end and he failed to get inside the mind of his kicker.  He was acting like a good NFL coach would act--in which the kicking game under pressure is far more reliable.

But that is done.

As I reflect on this season, I know the team has given me many hours of good times.  I have felt privileged to watch both Elway and Luck grow up as quarterbacks.  There are times in these athletic contests when I think the fans need to remember they are watching young people who are barely more than kids.  Whatever we feel is nothing compared with what those teammates are going through, as they say their goodbyes to their leaders. 

I am proud of Stanford football and thankful for another wonderfully entertaining season, with an exciting finish that did not turn out quite as I hoped.  I wish all of our players well--especially Jordan.

This is my final post on this subject.  I know I will be punished for it anyway, but here is the essence of why I posted in the first place:

Jordan is a great kicker.  I wish him the best and hope he nails Super Bowl winning FGs in the NFL.  BUT, as long as he is a Stanford kicker, I will be extremely agitated and worried before he attempts any big FGs.  If you are not, then my oh my, you have ice in your veins and I envy you.

Happy new year everyone, and Go Card next year and for years to come!
