So does anyone really think that kick would have been good from say 29 yards? Shaw was too busy to watch Williamson freaking out behind the bench on the last drive, so I really can't blame him for ending the game like every other sane coach in America would. They could have run one more play, and I would have run one more play just to burn clock, but a 32 yard field goal from dead center is about as good as it gets for the win. Great snap, great hold, perfect protection. He hooked it. It happens. Bobby Bowden had it happen to him with national titles on the line. Maybe he was too conservative too.
Stanford sort of swallowed the olive in OT, but outside of that, I have no real complaints. Good game between evenly matched teams.
Yeah, the Wildcat didn't work, but I don't think any Stanford drives stalled because of it, so who cares? Um, not every play works and they ran it all of two times. Even Luck's patented WTF pick didn't do any harm. And even that goofy fumble at their own one (Shaw's fault, right?) only cost 3. I was amazed Gundy didn't go for the tug at that point. Maybe he's too damn conservative too.
I know no one wants to just blame the kicker for missing something he should make (would Shaw suck after a thrilling last second win?), but that's the way I'm seeing it. But for The Hook, Stanford wins.
P.S. Harbaugh's gunslingery at the end lost the 2009 Big Game according to a lot of people on this board, so that dude wasn't perfect either.

Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working .I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work. Peter Gibbons
