I am not surprised the Rose Bowl had such good ratings compared to other bowls. For many people I know, it's the one bowl game they watch, along with the parade. Especially people in L.A. I do not recall the Rose Bowl ever being on cable (I thought in the past it was on ABC). That could be a factor in why its ratings dipped this year, perhaps.Â
The fact that our bowl had a 40% surge in ratings when the other bowls were all down 20-30% says a lot.Â
I would in general have expected lower bowl ratings because of football fatigue (lots of NFL games the day before) and the fact that many workers did not get January 2nd as a holiday (perhaps that is part of the reason the evening Fiesta Bowl did relatively better--although I think that timeslot effect would be trumped by Stanford's outrageous appeal this year). Â
