Continuing this thread regarding Kenny Margerum:

Qwerty, BobK, Chicago Card, anyone:  Do you recall the 1980 Big Game at Berkeley?  There was a throw that does not show up anywhere except as a check mark in the "attempts" column.  It was an incompletion.  The game was not televised, so there is no replay that would be available.  But it was one of the most remarkable athletic feats I've ever seen.  

It was the first quarter.  Stanford had the ball on or around their own 15 or 20 yard line.  I was in the Stanford student section, which back then was on the southwest corner of the stadium, and I was seated around the 10 yard line.   Elway's back was to the north end of Memorial Stadium.  Margerum lined out wide on the left.  Elway was under pressure, ran backwards and spun a bit to his right then spun quickly left.  He was now squared up surveying the field while standing in his own end zone. From my vantage point, I saw out of the corner of my eye that Margerum had just kept running down the Cal sideline without stopping and was nearing the south 20 yard line.  I actually thought to myself, "Oh, if only Elway could see him .... but that's too far".  But Elway saw him and threw - 80 yards.  The ball simply had no arc - it was like watching a professional baseball player throw from right field to nail a tagging runner at third.  Margerum dove for it and couldn't catch it, and it was out of bounds anyway.  But the ENTIRE stadium - both red and blue - let out a big WHOA: Undoubtedly because we all thought - did a human being just do that?

Can't help you on this one because I didn't go to that game.

BUT speaking of throws from RF to 3B the best I ever saw on TV was from Reggie Jackson in the 70's.  It was a fly ball to the corner in deep right.  The runner at 2nd tagged but stopped dead in his tracks when Reggie uncorked a seed to 3B on the fly.  The crowd let loose a big "oooh" at that one.  It was either one of the All-star games or maybe the WS against the Mets, was not at home.
