At 0:29? Possible the most famous throw Elway made during his collegiate career. I had the privilege of seeing that live.
We were getting pounded by U$C. This was right before the half. What the clip doesn't show is Elway was scrambling and had already reversed his field -- he had a patented spin move in the pocket that nearly always bought him more time, and he was extremely mobile. When he released the ball we saw Margerum was open in the end zone by about 10 yards. That's Ronnie Lott the defender #42. Lott later said he left Margerum open because he didn't think anyone could throw it as far as Elway did. The ball probably traveled about 60-65 yards in the air and Lott had plenty of time to take aim at Margerum and just leveled him. But Kenny hung on.
Of course through the foggy lens of time I'm tempted to say the ball went 90 yards through the air and that Margerum jumped over the goalposts to catch it, but you get the picture. People remember Elway's cannon arm but tend to overlook how mobile he was before the Stanford coaches begged him not to be. And Margerum was just an exceptional receiver, fast, great hops, great hands.

They showed that clip a number of times before the ASSU Sunday Night Flicks. All of Mem Aud erupted in cheers every time.
