I saw 17 commits so far. No QB. No d lineman. Is that the case? Overall how does it look
Here is my summary of the class.
1) Where we needed depth at OL and DBs, we are getting it. Not necessarily superstars but 5 solid players in each set.
2) A couple stud WRs who could play early and often (Higgins and Bowman)
3) A stud RB who could play early and often (Jones)
4) 3-4 linebackers that very well could play as frosh with OLB/DE Pakola, OLB Herron and Sinclair at ILB (where we could be desperate next year if Barton leaves) and possibly DiCosmo who was interestingly listed by Stanford as OLB/ILB
5) Missed out on a QB and an elite TE in the mold of Schultz, Smith, Parkinson but did pick up a TE from Cal.
Herron also listed as a WDE. I was so excited when I saw his tape. Can see why he was our top defensive prospect according to 24/7.
Higgins has great hands, and maybe his tape on gostanford didn't do him justice, but he looks like only a redzone player at this point (JJAW successor on end-zone fades?). His tape didn't demonstrate, imho, a whole lot of speed, in part because his running motion seemed a bit inefficient.
Sinclair's tape is fantastic (both speed and sure tackling), and he should provide some much needed speed at the ILB position that at times has been lacking.
Austin Jones looks like a surefire play as true frosh candidate. Honestly, his tape looked so good (he looked like a college RB already), I would not be shocked if he started as a true freshman.
Bowman also looks like a surfire play as a trush frosh candidate. His route running is great, and the speed is world class. Future matchup nightmare for opposing secondaries.
