Better examples are Barton, Jackson, and to a smaller extent Buncom and Wilson. The Rice guys (I still don't think Reagan Williams to Rice is official yet, so at this stage it's more like informed conjecture) weren't gonna start, and Herbig's scenario was behind a paywall so won't repeat it here but it wasn't "rot."
