Fun to think as far out as 2022, but I'm focused on this season for now. Let's assume that Williams and Carrington are set for the backcourt and every other position is open for a starter given the injury status of Fingall and Dodson. So we're basically looking for a shooting guard/wing, a wing/forward, and a forward/center, out of: Fingall (S), Wilson (S), Brewer (S), Dodson (J), Jerome (J), Moschkau (J), Lacie (S), Lexie (S), Brown (S), Jones (F), Belibi (F), Prechtel (F), and Jump (F).
It's really odd to say this, but because both of the Hulls are kind of tweeners, I could see a world in which they saw their most average playing time per game in their frosh seasons. I'm struggling to see how you keep them in instead of Jones, Belibi, and Prechtel, assuming they develop enough defensively for Tara to be happy keeping them in on both sides of the court. And especially when we don't know the injury status of Fingall and Dodson, what we really need is a defensive big in the paint, which either Belibi or Prechtel can function as. The Hulls have great motors and are solid backcourt defenders, but a lineup with them guarding the paint won't work given their limited height and slight frames. And I feel like Wilson, especially if she stays healthy, seemed to surge defensively by the end of the season, and given that she's a senior who has worked oh-so-hard to get back into playing shape, if Tara rewards any of our upperclassmen with the shooting guard/wing spot, I feel like it'd be her?
So we're basically looking at some combo of Wilson/Hull/Hull/Jones at the 3, Jones/Belibi/Jerome/Fingall at the 4, and Dodson/Fingall/Prechtel/Belibi at the 5. Out of all those combos, I have a hard time seeing either Hull maintain a spot in the starting lineup by March assuming Jones develops as we hope/expect she will.
