I was happy when KP tried to score points late in the match by tipping the ball over the block. My feeling was we did better when we looked where the blockers were and reacted to them, rather than just counting on power.
Alade was experienced with her team mates. I imagine that such experience is important in two players closing any seam on a block. I'm hoping our middles are gaining that experience. They won't be as good as Alade, but they will improve.
Did it seem to anyone else that KP is a bit slow in her lateral movement, perhaps related to being taped up? I thought I saw it on potential digs she didn't really go after, but I can imagine it also affects closing up a block, and maybe getting a good swing on less-than-perfect sets.
A bit of a bright point is 6 aces with 7 service errors. But Jenna had two service errors with no aces. Before the game she had 8 aces, 8 service errors.
I didn't have the heart to stay for a sundae with the team. I wouldn't have felt right talking about the loss, or not talking about it. I couldn't really say "Great game" or even "Tough loss".
When was the last time WVB lost 2 in a row at home?
To me, it is sad when the cheers are louder for T-shirts than to encourage the team as it struggles. Someone on here asserted all sports are entertainment but I bet our players don't feel like entertainers. (Maybe that's the difference between pro sports and amateur sports.) Personally, I don't like all the artificial things that stadiums do to stimulate the fans, but YMMV.
I wouldn't mind seeing Hambly try more drastic changes. Basically move Fitzmorris back to MB and have Kipp at OPP. Blocking is one of our major problems right now and Fitzmorris is the best blocker on the team. Plus she already hits the slide and is at least as effective at that than Campbell and definitely better than Vicini. Plus I believe Kipp will be more terminal as a OPP than Fitzmorris currently is. And I would keep McClure as a 6-rotation OH. The main reason is that we can't have Plummer passing in 6 rotations. She is not the best passer on the team and we need her fresh for all the other things she does. Teams are already serving her all the time and hitting at her when she is in the back row. Plus she takes so many swings in the front row and the back row.
I would also be supportive of a dramatic change (not that coach asked me), but I would definitely like to see how the team looks with McClure back as a 6 rotation player.
The recent performance makes me wonder how good a coach Hambly is. Was the recent run due to Don Shaw's touch and now it's fading away?
There's too much talent on this team not to be making another run at the championship.
McClure played all 6 rotations in sets 2 and 3 (and I assume 4, but I got discouraged and turned off the TV). It seemed helpful -- especially in the set 2 win -- but there were just too many other things going wrong yesterday.
