The TD to Fehoko was a blown coverage, yes, but the pass was a laser.
The long corner throw to Wedington on 2nd and 19 for 18 yards, on the run, was the best I've seen in a long time. And he was drilling other passes too. Not to be overlooked was the touch and timing on the screen passes.
Costello is a good QB. Mills looks like a first round draft pick. Really fluid athlete, quick release, quick feet, great arm, with accuracy, zip and touch. Want to see him have to play against some zone defenses, to see how he reads them, but he seems to have everything you want in a QB. This team could have a lot more upside will Mills at QB.
agree with the above, but Mills also does the little things that make plays work better. good ball fakes on play action, same on PRO, the shoulder pump on the Fehoko TD throw, etc. fun to watch. many of these elements have been absent for years.
hopefully it is a tweak. Shaw in post-game played down the injury, basically he said he could have played but they decided to sit him for precautionary reasons.
Absolutely right. I’m not as down on Costello as some here, but it is clear that he is not very good at executing play fakes (or any other kind of fake). Even when we ran play action pass with Costello, which was less than with other quarterbacks, the fake hand-off always seemed perfunctory; he was not good at “selling” it at all. Luck (especially), Hogan, and now Mills, are very good at selling the fake handoff. And yeah, Mills also had that nice shoulder fake.

One of those “little things” that helped the running game immensely last night was when he established the keeper on the read-option twice in the first quarter for big gains. They had to respect it for the rest of the game.
