On that note, I have been permanently scarred by his choices a few years back to punt inside the 40-yard line.
The worst one I believe was at the 32-yard line (USC 2014, when we scored only 10 points in nine drives down to the 32).
After that year I think Shaw started going for it more, but it doesn't stop me from expecting a punt.
That was one painful game. My memory is that Bill Connelly called it the least likely outcome of the year based upon the overall stats for the game.
Every Stanford drive of the game ended in $C territory, though only 10 points.
Drive #1 had a blocked FG from the $C 32 that seems to have spooked Shaw on FGs.
Drive #2 had a punt from the $C 29, it was fourth and 22.
To start the second half another missed FG from the $C 9.
Then later after a TD completion was called back on a (questionable) chop block there was a punt from the $C 32, on fourth and 13.
There was also a failed fourth and 1 from the $C 3, and two fumbles deep in $C territory.
Yuck.
