The logic was always flawed. The powers at the UC really seemed to support the idea that the TV deal could balance the AD budget. (More revenue, same costs, problem solved) As if no other program in the conference would plow that incremental money into athletics forcing the b.e.a.rs to increase spending to just preserve their current position in the conference.
The TV deal at best creates more revenue, more costs, stronger conference, same UC budget problems.
The UC AD is probably close to needing $10 million a year to cover operational shortfalls and another 7 or 8 figure annually to cover the now underfunded AD infrastructure projects. Given the massive cuts throughout the State budget it is unacceptable for the UC AD to feel some level of entitlement.
