MLB is a farce, based on the disparity of salary spending by teams like the Royals and A's compared to the Red Sox and Yankees. The salary cap is was drives the even playing field in the NFL though, more than the draft process. If the NFL allowed rookie free agency, within a salary cap environment, teams would still have to be rationale about who they sign and for how much. It might even make teams more critical about their rookie signings and thinking about the cost/benefit tradeoff when signing a player with great "up side."
