Maybe a bit more, but students as far as I can recall have never been a major presence at women's basketball. About 10 years or a bit more ago, there was actually a significant program to promote students coming, with a donation made designated for that. But it never seemed to generate much added attendance.
What I do remember from the 1990s (1989-90 onward), is a sense of excitement, involvement, passion among the fans. And people brought their friends, and then the friends brought their friends. And part of the draw was going to the FBC events after the game. Yes, I realize it was extra effort for the coaches, maybe a demand on the players, but it made a difference in how attendance, I think. I understand the financial issue, the effect (negative in my opinion) of merging the cardinal club into the buck cardinal club, etc., but I really have to wonder if the coaches have given any serious thought to why attendance is so poor, and considered the changes that may have led to it.
And it occurs to me that in years to come, this could have a negative effect on recruiting. If you're a top player, academics aside, where would you rather go? To a program that has a great and supportive fan atmosphere, or to a place that has a sort of "who cares" feeling to it.

Another thought -- here. Maybe we should move all this to a new thread! Doesn't have much to do with the N Colorado game per se. It's a major issue, at least to me.
