2nd and 4, with 3 minutes left, tie game, in field goal range. You've just run for 6 yards on first down. Let's heave the ball downfield into a jumpball, incomplete pass, little gain on 3rd down, and scoring with 2:20 left and Cal still having all their timeouts to go up 3. You run that ball twice, maybe get a first down, and at least run another 40 seconds off the clock or force a timeout.
And on second down and 4, your receiver runs a route that puts him at the sticks when he receives the ball - and runs backwards two yards to try to turn it upfield. Followed by an incomplete pass on third and two.
No identity for this team at all.

This team doesn't have an adequate short and intermediate passing game. We take shots down the field and sometimes they work, but sometimes we need to find a soft spot in the coverage for 5-15 yards or a short pass that will allow the receiver to run after the catch. Shaw may talk about how Walsh has influenced him, but we're missing a big component of a Walsh-style offense.
