Running the ball twice wouldn’t have made a damned bit of difference unless we got a first down.  Cal had plenty of time outs, so if we ran the first time, they would have used a time out after third down to give themselves exactly the same amount of time to match down the field.

In fact, Wilcox probably should have called a time out earlier to give himself an extra 40 seconds; you can hurry up your own offense, but you can’t hurry up your opponent’s, so time outs are better used on defense.
