Some observations from an unsophisticated football family watching the end of the game:
- Alex Smith is no Andrew Luck. My son and I agreed. The wife cautioned us to wait a few years.
- Son and I agreed, while we were very unhappy with the outcome, it was 5% as painful as the ending of the Fiesta Bowl. At least he has his loyalties right.
- Poor Kyle Williams.
- Harbaugh is, indeed, a great coach. Son and I questioned the call about midway through the fourth quarter when the 49ers had the ball around midfield at 4th and 1. They punted. We thought they should have gone for it. Not sure I recall, but I think the 49ers has a small lead at that point. neither of us is paid a cent for our opinions, though. I share Farmboy's concern that our own rise to elite program status not be a Harbaugh phenomenon and persists with Shaw.
I just loved that the first person I saw interviewed (Well, the only one, actually) after the game was the kicker Tynes. Always the goat, seldom the hero. Great for a kicker to get his moment. Interesting that he said he was really nervous the whole game. Pro kickers really show what being "pro" means. Great for him.
